Trained in Fine Art and Design earning a BFA from Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University and as a graduate student of Communication Design at Pratt Institute, I believe my greatest cultural contribution was as an art educator in Newark Public Schools. I've taught over a thousand children from pre-k through high school in the diverse neighborhoods of the city.

My personal work changed in phases: photography, drawing and painting to printmaking to a strict design interlude to pastel and mixed media drawing. When I retired from teaching in 2015 I returned in earnest to photography, an interest that began in the 1970s when I joined a small photography group in Princeton, NJ. Those were the days of making a darkroom in a closet, developing film in a kitchen.

In the years that photography went from film to digital, I was doing something else so I had to catch-up. I started showing photographs sporadically in 2008; by 2014 I've exhibited photographs exclusively.

These days everyone has a camera with them all the time causing a snap shot esthetic to become the visual language of photographic imagery. Photographers might need to challenge this esthetic or start over. I'm in a start over period. I made a conscious decision to get away from filters and quick processing. It's undeniable that Instagram and digital filters are immediately rewarding and fun. Now I just correct. I don't photoshop. I work on my computer in Lightroom like I once did in a darkroom. The exception is the Blackie app for Iphone photos. (There are a couple instagrammed photos here. They're older and I like them.)

As a real estate professional I have been building a portfolio of photographs of properties for real estate search sites and print advertising. It's a commercial thing.

The photos on this site were taken with my Canon Rebel DSLR, Canon G9, or my iPhone. In March '17, I sold the G9 and bought an old Leica D-Lux4. I'm loving it!
